First Ladies DJ Collective
I was one of the co-founders of the First Ladies DJ Collective, an all-woman network of DJs dedicated to breaking the vinyl ceiling. The collective promoted, supported, and showcased women DJs in DC and beyond.
We worked to share resources and exchange skills by leading record-buying meetups, workshops, and how-to clinics. We also brought a feminist lens to DJing, working to democratize dancefloors and create safe and inclusive spaces for women and other marginalized communities.
We created the long-running Girl Friday dance night at the Black Cat in Washington, DC and performed at events including Ladyfest Hamburg and Incite! Sisterfire tour. We also performed in support of organizations including the National Organization for Women and National Asian Pacific Women’s Forum. The collective also hosted a weekly show on community radio station Radio CPR.
